Commissioner of Police Ahmed Faseeh has yesterday met with the Speaker of the Parliament, Abdulla Shahid.

Leader of the Parliamentary Group of the opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) Kendhoo MP Ahmed Thasmeen Ali, and Fuvamulah-South MP Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed represented DRP in the meeting.

Delegates of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) including, Interim Parliamentary Leader Hulhu-Henveiru MP ‘Reeko’ Moosa Manik and Hithadhoo-North MP Mohamed Aslam, were present in the meeting.

The officials discussed on the reasons for the increased crime rate in the country and immediate preventive measures.

Police Commissioner briefed the Speaker on the difficulties faced by the Police in carrying out their work, as crucial laws and regulations were pending. He noted that Police were preparing to conduct special programmes to maintain law and order.

The Speaker, as well as the MPs who participated in the meeting assured the Commissioner that the parliament would give full support to the Police in tackling the issue.
