Premier League Team of the Week 11

Everton, Chelsea and Blackburn are the stand out clubs in Kelvin Leong’s Premier League Team of the Week.

Boaz Myhill – Hull City

Anyone who caught the match between Tottenham and Hull on Saturday night would have given Myhill a standing ovation. Faced with the prospect of a non-existent defence and a rampant Spurs attack, Myhill made save after save to deny Harry Redknapp’s men from claiming all three points. One of the best goalkeeping displays in the league this season.

Christopher Samba – Blackburn Rovers

Not often do we get a Blackburn player on our Team of the Week but both centre-backs fully deserve their spot in the limelight this week with the giant Samba prodding home the first goal and putting in a steady shift to frustrated Fulham throughout the game,

Ryan Nelsen – Blackburn Rovers

2009 was a brilliant year for Nelsen as he guided the New Zealand national team to the 2010 World Cup. This season, Nelsen has been the beacon of light at the back for Rovers and he even found time to net Blackburn’s second goal to ensure Big Sam’s team secured maximum points.

Robert Huth – Stoke City

The giant German defender delivered a knockout blow to Rafa Benitez’s side with a late equalizer. A solid display at the back also restricted Liverpool’s attacking forays into the box. Huth has been a good buy from Middleborough for Tony Pulis.

Charles N’Zogbia – Wigan

The late Sir Bobby Robson brought N’Zogbia to England and the Frenchman is showing this season just what the legendary manager saw in him. Creator of the first goal and scorer of the second. Wigan’s survival hopes are firmly nestled on his bulky shoulders for the rest of the season. Great stuff from the left-back.

Florent Malouda – Chelsea

The French winger can be the most frustrating player to watch on an off day but when he is on form, he is a sight to behold. Ran a full distance before smashing a great drive right into the net for his goal in Chelsea’s 7-2 mauling of Sunderland. If only Malouda can add consistency to his game.

Cesc Fabregas – Arsenal

When Fabregas is on fire, the Gunners move up a level. He showed his class with a neat one-two before firing a shot in to put a dent into Owen Coyle’s debut for Bolton.

Another elegant showing from the Spaniard playmaker.

Arsene Wenger will have his hands full trying to keep Fabulous Fab at the Emirates in the summer.

Steven Pienaar – Everton

The former Borussia Dortmund man is sizzling at the moment. Two man-of-the-match displays in a fortnight gives him a spot in our team this week. Curled a brilliant free-kick to give the Toffees a first-half lead. Pure dynamite!

Frank Lampard – Chelsea

Fabio Capello must be purring with delight as Lampard put on another midfield master class to aid Carlo Ancelotti’s side to a 7-2 thumping of the Black Cats. Netted a brace to take his season tally to eight goals in the league. At some point, we have to remember Lamps is a midfielder and not a striker!

Marouane Fellaini – Everton

What a player. And he is only 22-years-old! Deployed in his favourite position as defensive anchor in midfield for the Toffees, Fellaini covered every blade of grass at Goodison Park to give Roberto Mancini his first taste of defeat as Manchester City manager. David Moyes is not too far off when he suggested that the Belgium boy is one of the best in his positions.

Nicolas Anelka – Chelsea

Le Sulk no more! The brooding hitman is smiling brightly these days thanks to his awesome form. Another two goals for him showed that Chelsea will not miss Didier Drogba much. His goal-scoring talent has never been in doubt but it’s his willingness to work for the team this season that has made him an even better player than he already is.
